He was born on March 25, 1921 in New Jersey to Jacob and Nellie Vierstra, (dairy farmers) who immigrated to America from Holland.
Living on a working ranch, he was always busy with the cows, riding his horse Tony, school and chores, but still found time to sneak in flying lessons!
He went to Southern California Bible college where he met the love of his life, Dorothy (Collins) and was married for 48 years before her passing in 1997.
They raised 5 children together: Jack Jr, Robert, Kevin, Karen (Roth) & Kendall.
Jack went to seminary and was a pastor at Loomis Church where he and our family established lifelong relationships.
He also worked at Mc Clellan AFB as a mechanical engineer, and later at Sacramento Army Depot. He took his family overseas to Okinawa for 2 years as a civilian working for the government which was an enriching cultural experience for the whole family.
After his retirement, he and Dorothy worked as campground hosts for the state of California up and down the California coast and traveled all over together with their network of trailer friends.
He was remarried to Maxine Gillman in 1998 and spent another 22 years traveling together and enjoying life!
Jack was the most kind and joyful man & aged gracefully. He leaves a godly legacy of a life well lived, full of character & integrity for his five children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
We are certain he heard, “Well done, good and faithful servant” upon meeting his Lord and Savior.
A private graveside service will be held Wednesday December 9 @ 11:00 at Sylvan Oaks Cemetery in Citrus Heights, CA. Arrangements made through Reicherts Funeral Home in Citrus Heights.
Due to restrictions and limitations, the family is keeping the service small, sweet and simple, just like him. There will not be a reception at this time.
We ask for your thoughts and prayers and please share a special memory of our father with us.
