Simon Andrew Charles

Simon passed away on April 18, 2012 at age 65. Simon was born in New Orleans, LA on October 12, 1946 to Simon Andrew Charles and Verna Mae Charles of Algiers, LA. Once he graduated high school he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann Torrey of Norfolk, VA. Together they had three children, Michelle, Bernetta and Simon Junior. Simon entered the Air Force and honorably served his country for ten years. During that time, the family traveled to Maine, Mississippi and Missouri, ultimately settling in Sacramento, CA. Life in Sacramento brought many changes. He was honorably discharged from the military and began his civilian career as a Computer Technician at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. During this time he married Despo Garcia. Together they had three children, Scottie, Michael and Stephanie. Simon’s career culminated at Federal Express where he was a Data Engineer. After retiring from Federal Express, he enjoyed a life of leisure in Sacramento and in Los Angeles, CA. He enjoyed fishing, boating, traveling, cooking, watching sports and spending time with friends and family. Simon was preceded in death by his father, Simon Andrew Charles, his mother Verna Mae Branch and his sister Glenda Charles of Norfolk, VA. He is survived by his children, Michelle Charles of Los Angeles, Bernetta Charles-Hartsfield of Raleigh, Simon Charles, Scottie Garcia, Michael Charles, Stephanie Charles of Roseville, and his aunt Lorraine Palmer of Norfolk. He was also the proud grandfather of Mia, Brianna, Makenna, Kaylee and Paris. Simon will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
