February 7th, 1945 to March 5th, 2025
Betty Lou Robinette passed away peacefully on March 5th, 2025, in Colorado City, TX. She was born in Topeka, KS on February 7th, 1945 to the late William C. Brady, of Muskogee, OK and Audrey Elizabeth (Anderson), of Bettie, TX. Betty Lou Brady was the youngest born to the family, with three older siblings at home to welcome her- Donald, Rita & Frances.
In 1948, The Brady Family relocated from Topeka, KS to El Paso, TX. El Paso, TX is where Betty Lou and her siblings grew up. Growing up, she was everyone’s favorite, with her long blonde braids and bubbly personality. She attended Bel Air High School, where she played the flute in the Marching Band. After graduating High School in El Paso, Betty Lou went to study at Sul Ross University in Alpine, TX. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. It was at Sul Ross where she met the love of her life, Joseph Neal Robinette. They shared the same birthday, February 7th, 2 years age difference (Betty Lou slightly older than Joe) did not matter. They were married in 1965. Young love immediately took them on several adventures together, and they ultimately settled in Colorado City, TX.
Colorado City quickly became home for Joe and Betty, as they built their life together. Betty Lou had earned her teaching degree from Sul Ross and proudly put it to use as a 1st Grade Teacher for nearly 30 years at Westbrook. They had so many projects and hobbies along the way, which gave many things to talk about. They both had a love for critters, Joe and Betty had a pet monkey at one point, prior to their kids being born. They also Fostered children. Joe and Betty poured their hearts and souls into so many things, but most importantly, their 2 sons who arrived in the 1970’s, Billy Joe and Brady Don!
Betty Lou had such a big heart and love for so many, and loved her Church, 1st Baptist of Colorado City. She also loved her Coca Cola, Caramel Popcorn and Molasses Cookies. She had a sweet tooth that couldn’t be ignored most meals, and if she thought nobody was looking, she would have dessert first… and maybe not dinner, and she didn’t mind if the grandkids partook in that too. She would admit she was not much of a cook, but that was ok since Joe loved to cook and Betty Lou didn’t mind doing the dishes.
Eventually, they would have 7 Grandchildren, who meant the world to Betty Lou…Memaw Betts! Memaw Betts is the epitome of a wonderful Grandma. She was so proud of each of her children and grandchildren, and spent countless hours playing with them and letting them play and make messes without fussing about it. She would get so tickled at the Grandkids making messes and learning how kids do. She had so much patience, she was an incredible woman.
Despite battling Parkinson’s for many years, Betty loved nothing more than getting down on the floor to play with the Grandkids and laugh, or walking out in her yard to pick up hundreds of peacock feathers, or taking her Grandkids out mud bogging after a storm. She also loved Clogging with her Clogging group in Snyder, TX. She loved raising Yorkie and Maltese puppies through the years, as well as making puzzles, teaching her grandkids how to sew and make things, she loved crafts with the kids. She would also correct the kids in their reading and language skills when she saw fit, even long after retiring from being a teacher, and even when the kids were tired. She was passionate about education and wouldn’t miss the opportunity to teach. Whether it was school or about God, she would teach. Betty was the 1st one in her family to accept Jesus as her Savior in 1961. She loved to pray with her Grandchildren and comforted them when there was thunder, letting them know that was just God rearranging his furniture. She absolutely loved toting her Grandkids to Sunday School every opportunity she had, and the kids loved it too.
Betty Lou Robinette is survived by her 2 sons, Billy Joe and his wife Aly of Colorado City, TX and Brady Don and his family of Lubbock, TX. Her 7 Grandchildren- Logan, Lincoln, Lott, Lila, Paige (Dawson), Taylor and Morgan. As well as her 1st Great Grandchild, to arrive June 2025, Braelynn Brady Lourenco. Betty Lou was so excited and honored to become a Great Grandma! She is also survived by one living sister, Rita Anderson and her husband Frank of Sequim, WA. Dear friends, Debby Carlock and husband Tom, Rhonda Roark Chambers, Jimmy & Pat Lockridge, Greg & Margaret Cawthron, The Gillens, Heather, Terri, Judy Hale and Linda Raschke, nephews, niece and so many more family friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Neal Robinette; Parents, Bill and Audrey Brady; brother Don, and sister Frances.
