Dane Griffin O’Bannon, 26, of Aubrey, Texas formerly of Lubbock, TX passed away peacefully in the UT South Western Clements Hospital in Dallas after a lengthy battle with cancer on Thursday, July 17, 2025 with his loving family and friends by his side.
He was 1 of 4 children born to Don Russell O’Bannon Jr. and Fonda Lynn Long in Lubbock, Texas on September 9, 1998.
Dane was a strong-minded young man, who faced, fought, and beat cancer at an early age, before it unfortunately came back 10 years later and took his life. His life battles inspired him not just to live life to its fullest but to be an advocate for those facing childhood cancer. He always dreamt of being a nurse for a Children’s Cancer Center, but fighting the good fight for so long made that dream difficult to achieve, yet he never gave up on his passions, always keeping a positive attitude, putting others first, and focusing on joy and loving others.
Dane was a great son, brother, and best friend, never meeting a stranger and always putting other’s joy first, even when his health made it a challenge. He had a great sense of humor, and some would say his sense of style, flair, and skill with a make-up brush could not be matched. He was a great artist and writer despite his dyslexia, and he could put together great floral arrangements and goodie-bags which were often his way of thanking those that cared for him over the years. Though he never got to be a nurse helping others with their cancer battles, or write the book he wanted to in order to help children through cancer, he impacted a lot of lives with his light and will be cherished and missed by many.
Dane is survived by his mother Fonda Long and companion Matt Sheppard of Colorado City, by his father Donnie O’Bannon and wife Karen of Tyler, by his oldest brother Bradley O’Bannon of Lubbock and triplet brother Dillon O’Bannon and wife Brooke of Hereford, by his triplet sister Hope Robins and husband Mason of Plains, and by a nephew Bodie Hudson-O’Bannon of Lubbock. He is also survived by his best friend Jackson Altamar of Dallas and by his fur babies Manfred and Thierry.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Narl (Slim) Long, Jean Long, Don Russell O’Bannon, and June O’Bannon.
In honor of Dane, his close friends and family will be having a Celebration of Life for him on August 2nd, at 1pm.
If you would like to donate flowers, the family will use them to honor Dane at his Celebration of Life on August 2nd. Or if you prefer, please consider donations in his memory to the UT South Western Children’s Cancer Center.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City.
