David Carlton “D.C.” Stubblefield, age 94 passed away, Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at home. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 8th at 2:00pm at the 22nd & Austin Street Church of Christ in Colorado City.
D.C. was born November 20, 1926 in Mitchell County to David and Thelma Stubblefield. He graduated from Colorado High School in May 1943. He entered college at Texas Tech University and completed one year before joining the U.S. Army at the age of 18. He was a World War II veteran and served in the Pacific Theater. After his Army discharge he and his brother C.N operated a dairy owned by their father. He returned to Texas Tech and graduated in 1950 with a Business Administration degree. He worked for General Motors, farmed for four years, and then spent the next 27 years employed by I.B.M. This job led him to Midland, Cheyenne, Wyoming, and San Antonio.
He married Barbara Christesson on June 2, 1962. His hobbies were flying his plane and ranching. His love for traveling took him to all 50 States and 25 foreign countries.
D.C. was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, daughter Cathy, his parents, brothers Charles N. ”Bo” and Travis Stubblefield, sisters 5 year old Helen, and Jeanine Bodine.
He is survived by very special friend and companion Ann Wood, stepson Ronnie Christesson and wife Wendy, four grandsons: Chad and John Christesson, Matthew and Cory Morris, and six great-grandkids. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Ernestine O’Dell and Helen Jo Stubblefield, nieces Jena Thomas and Christy Dockrey, nephews Randy Bodine, Gary Bodine and wife Brenda, Dwayne Stubblefield and wife Fredda, David Stubblefield and wife Melody, and Kirk Stubblefield and wife Pam. He is also survived by several first-cousins, and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be Saturday, May 8th from 12-1:30pm at the 22nd and Austin Church of Christ Fellowship Hall. A meal will be served for all family and friends.
