

He was born in Snyder, Texas, on September 20, 1931 to Dewey Ottis and Hettie Bennett Rollins.
After graduating from Colorado City High School in 1951, Gerald decided to serve his country by joining the US Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa. Promptly after his four years of service, Gerald moved back to the Mitchell County area where he married Nell Buchanan on July 16, 1955. He made his career in the oilfield. He was a deacon at the Westbrook First Baptist Church since 1985, a charter member of the Westbrook Lion's Club, and a member of the American Legion. He spent his spare time at the Cafe in Westbrook or the DQ in C-City where he could get a cup of coffee, socialize and reminisce with friends or anybody who would lend an ear. He enjoyed fishing at the coast and made numerous trips over the years. His favorite thing to do was watching his grandson Ethan play football.
Gerald's immediate family consists of his wife of 60 years, Nell, son Stephen Rollins of Westbrook, daughter Sharla Bredemeyer (Bill) of Winters, grandson Ethan Bredemeyer of College Station, sisters Christine Stuard of Snyder and Lynn Welborn of Katy, nephew Jerry Stuard (Sharon), nieces Mary McDonald (Jim) and Teresa Chardola, several cousins and relatives. Gerald was predeceased by his daughter Gayle.
A burial with full military honors will be held Monday, April 4, at 10:00 at Hillside Memorial Gardens in Snyder followed by a memorial service at 11:30 at the Westbrook First Baptist Church with Rev. John Ward, Rev. Paul Smith, and Rev. John Copeland.
