She was born in Loraine, Texas on March 2, 1926, to the late Daniel and Clara Wilson Butler.
Doris was a faithful Christian mother, who was a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Colorado City. She was a great wife, mother, and grandmother, who taught her family by leading by example. If someone were to ask about Doris, they would quickly find out that she was a pillar of her community, volunteering not only for her church for many important jobs, but also as a volunteer for the Wallace Senior Citizen Center, and for the Mitchell County Ladies Auxiliary. Her hard work and dedication to her community is one of many reasons she was the proud recipient of the Mitchell County Citizen of the year in 2016. In her younger years she was very proactive in her children’s education, always making sure that they were successful in life. As she got older, she enjoyed making her famous pies, sewing, making dresses for her granddaughter, and making “for display only” quilts for her family and close friends. Then when the time came and she moved to a retirement home she enjoyed playing lots of games with the other residents, especially BINGO.
Doris is survived by her son Jim Dockrey and wife Sherry of Colorado City, by a daughter-in-law Debbie Dockrey of Round Rock, and by grandchildren Justin Dockrey and wife Shane of Midland, Lance Dockrey and wife Carol of Kandern Germany, Joe Dan Dockrey and wife Joanna of London England, Weston Dockrey and wife Audra of Austin, Reese Dockrey and wife Stephanie of Austin, Zach Anderson and wife Ashley of Corpus Christi, and Jed Anderson and wife Misti of Canyon. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Jaycee, Boston, Sadie, Dash, Reece, Grant, Paisley, Lynlee, Magnolia, Ryan, Wyatt, and June, as well as by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Clara Butler, by her husband Harry Dockrey, by a son Bill Dockrey, a granddaughter Lori Dockrey, and by her brothers Kenneth Butler, Truett Butler, and her twin brother Norris Butler.
A celebration of Doris’s life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Colorado City on Wednesday, September 10th at 2pm with Pastor Greg Lewis officiating, burial will follow in the Spade Cemetery.
