George Laval Umfress, Jr. was born in Stanton, Texas, September 22, 1974 and left the confines of this life on earth August 27, 2014. He was a graduate of Lee High School in Midland and was employed by Honda of Midland as a salesman.
He was welcomed into this world by a large close knit family and his parents George Laval (Cotton) Umfress, Sr. and Jeanette Chamness Umfress McGowan. He was preceded in death by his father, Cotton Umfress of Odessa; his maternal grandfather, Doyce Ray (Ace) Lee of Loraine; and his paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Goldie Umfress. He is survived by his mother of Midland; his grandmother, Mildred Lee of Loraine; his step mother, Joyce Umfress of Odessa; a sister, Mindy of Midland; a brother, Shawn of Ft Stockton; three nephews; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss him every day.
Laval was an outgoing person with a ready smile who never met a stranger. He was generous to a fault as he would do his best to help any lost or hungry soul he encountered. His first love has always been cars but he loved singing and playing Texas Hold 'Em poker and as a result, he was blessed with a large group of friends that he loved dearly.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at 10 AM at Loraine Cemetery under the care and direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Midland Food Bank in honor of Laval.
Today there is rejoicing in heaven as he is greeted with open arms by those who have gone before him.
