

Born August 22, 1922 at the Cuthbert Community in Mitchell County, Texas. He was a 1942 grad of Colorado City High School . Where he was a stand out member of the Championship Wolves football teams from 1938 to 1941. The 1940 team won 2A Regionals and won Bi-District in 6A playoffs. He was the team kicker, punter, and played End. Their efforts as a great team are still remembered at CHS.
He served in World War II as an aircraft electrical mechanic in the Army Air-Corp. In 1952, he married
Betty Ruth Glover of Colorado City. They moved to Sweetwater in 1956 where he worked for Sinclair Oil Company as a Roustabout and Pumper, later Retiring with Atlantic-Richfield ( ARCO) in Coahoma in 1983.
In retirement, He and Betty loved to spend time in the spring until fall at her folks farm in Osage, Arkansas. Her parents were the late Dick and Gertie Glover of Colorado City. He enjoyed watching football, fishing, camping, and playing golf, especially with his late cousin John Jay “Battler” Morgan.
He was a member of the local RV “Good Sams” club. He loved to go dancing and listen to Bob Wills and ALL Western Swing Music and especially his friends, the late Hoyle Nix and his son Jody from Big Spring. He had many, many friends and a great love of live and a good-natured sense of humor. His famous heart-felt saying “ Let me know if I can help you with anything.” will long be remembered by friends, and neighbors that knew him. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, infant son, William Lee, daughter, Anna Ruth, and brothers, Curtis “ Squirt” and Wayne “ Poss”, and parents, S.M. and Maud Wood.
Survived by his son, Bobby Dan Wood of Sweetwater. Grand kids, Valerie Beitel of McCamey, Dylan Hancock and Sara Aguayo-Corona, Kylan and Billy Utley, Kaden Hancock and LaVonta Moore, Great Grand Kids, Cooper Hancock and Kaleb Utley all of Sweetwater.
A Graveside memorial service with be held at 9:30 am Tuesday at Colorado City Cemetery. Lead by Dr. Jerry Shields. A family visitation will be at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home, Monday evening 6-8 pm.
