John Robert Jordan, 82, Colorado City, passed away at the Nolan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday December 16, 2015. He was born in Tulsa Oklahoma on May 17, 1933 to John Peter and Merle Marie Thompson Jordan.
After finishing High School John started his career in the Air Force. He served his country from 1953 to 1973 retiring as an E6 Tech Sgt after fighting in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Shortly after his retirement on February 2, 1978 he married his wife Manuela (Nellie) Jordan who preceded him in death. Those that knew John knew that he could be a bit cantankerous from time to time but would also be one of the first people to give you the shirt off his back. John was always a hard-working man after retiring one job he soon started another working in the purchasing department for Cap Rock Electric. When not working he could be found hunting, fishing, camping or admiring military planes (both real and the models he enjoyed putting together), and he always found time to work on his 1967 mustang. Aside from all the activities he did in life John always found time to spend with his family whom he cherished dearly, often times making things for them out of things he had collected over the years.
John is survived by his children; Rebecca Harmon and husband Mike of Clyde, Mark Jordan of Abilene, Maria Castillo of Colorado City, Connie Ponko and husband Stuart of Colorado City, Ralph Castillo and wife Jewell of Lone Camp, Freddie Castillo of Abilene, and Milton Bramble of Florida. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, as well as his brother Mike Jordan of Oklahoma and his four sisters Marjorie Dennis of Oklahoma, Mary Kelly of California, Patricia Ponder of Oklahoma, and Susan and husband Albert Dwarshus of Lukenbach.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Ann’s Church in Colorado City at 10 am on Monday, December 21. Burial with full military rights will follow at the Colorado City Cemetery. A visitation for John will be held on Sunday, December 20 from 6 to 8 pm with a rosary at 7pm at the Kiker Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City.
