He was born on August 15, 1952 to Jack Lee Edwards and Betty Joe Love Edwards in Crowell, Texas.
Wayland was a kindhearted man who was a big ol’ teddy bear, who enjoyed enabling souls and caring for all around him. After graduating high school in Colorado City he married Glenda who was the love of his life on February 22, 1971. Wayland had a full career working for Fina Oil for 25 years before starting his 2nd career as a jailer. Together with his loving wife Glenda they raised 3 sons and 1 daughter, but even after would help anyone in need as they always had someone living with them who needed assistance. Christmas was his favorite time of year, and everyone in the family knew they were getting a knife as that was his go-to gift. As a man of faith Wayland knew where he was going when he passed from this life to the next. In his spare time, he would take his children arrowhead hunting, playing practical jokes, and playing the banjo.
Wayland is survived by his children; Tracy Edwards of Mexia, Tim Edwards and wife Sadie of Mexia, Brandon Edwards and wife Jamie of Colorado City, and Niki Donnelly and husband Heath of Colorado City, by grandchildren Paige, Brooke, Beth, Sarah, Noah, McKenna, Austyn, Trinity, Shea, Seth, Gavin, Anthony, Aiden, and Aisley, as well as by great-grandchildren Godric, Freya, Eliana, and Jakari. He is also survived by brothers Steve Edwards and wife Velinda of Colorado City and Sonny Edwards and wife Mary of Red Oak, and by sisters Sue Hawley of Big Spring and Misty Johnson and husband Jerry of Canada.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Betty Edwards and by his wife Glenda Edwards. A private service will be held at the family's discretion. Honorary pallbearers will be Austyn Edwards, Noah Hill, Seth Edwards, Justin Edwards, Travis Lynch, Anthony Bassile, Anthony Harther, Roy Lentz, and Jeremy Meguire.
