COLUMBIA - A Talent for Life – Alta Britten, widow of Roland “Britt” Britten, passed from this life on Saturday, October 27, 2018. She was born January 26, 1921 in Brunswick, N.J. to the late Estelle and Raymond Clark.
Alta married Britt on February 21, 1942 and they were married for 66 years. She had a talent for life. She sparkled, lighting up the rooms she entered and found joy in each minute with laughter, love and an incredibly positive attitude. She and Britt enjoyed international travels and lived in far-ranging places from Iran and Turkey to Germany and Taiwan and beyond. In every location and often under unusual circumstances, she created a beautiful home for her family and inviting respite for friends and visitors. Alta loved to play bridge, entertain friends, and she was a gifted cook. Her dinner parties were legendary. She and Britt could clear the dance floor with their wonderful dancing. She served as a strong model to her children, showing them what unwavering love really means – minute by minute and across time.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Charles Britten and survived by her children, Pamela Jewett (Gary) of Columbia, S.C., Barbara Von Runnen (Jim) of Ashburn, Virginia, Eric Britten (Eileen) of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Jenny Sparks, Christopher Jewett, Meghan Hoyecki, Justine Von Runnen, Leigh Von Runnen, Onyria Gilmore, Maxwell Britten, and Natalie Kendrick. She was known as GG to her eight beloved great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice; or in memory of Britt to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
