Alvin Roper Roof

COLUMBIA – Alvin Roper Roof, 83, died Monday, March 1, 2021. Born in Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late Lucius Alvin Roof and Felicia Butler Moss Roof. A graduate of Springfield High School, he attended University of South Carolina in Business Administration. Alvin was the founder and president of Galaxy Boat Manufacturing in Columbia, SC. He was a member of Spring Valley Country Club and a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, Columbia. Alvin was an avid golfer, an SC saltwater fisherman, and an avid UofSC Gamecock fan, following the football team on all of the out of town games for many years.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Jan Roof; son, Rev. Wm. Alvin Roof; daughter, Merrie Roof, all of Columbia; granddaughters, Salley and Carlee; brother, Victor O. Roof, his wife, children, and grandchildren; brother-in-law, Douglas N. Swanson, Sr.; and nephew, Douglas N. Swanson, Jr., his wife, children, and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Salley Anne Roof, and sister, Anne Swanson.
