

Born in Orangeburg, SC, she was a daughter of the late Granville Hairston and Maggie Jeanette Rutland Hairston. She received her undergraduate and master’s degree in social work from The University of South Carolina. Annette worked as a social worker at the South Carolina Department of Social Services until she retired. Annette was a involved in Sistercare, League of Women Voters, Friends of the Library, National Association of Social Workers, Academy of Certified Social Workers and numerous other civic and professional organizations. Family genealogy was very near and dear to her. In retirement, she spearheaded securing protective vests for all of the canines in the City of Columbia K-9 team by providing support and donations.
Surviving are her children, Jack Boette (Rose) of Columbia, SC, David Boette (Kathy) of Greensboro, NC, Rob Boette (Leslie) of Lexington, SC, and Meg Thrasher (David) of Pelzer, SC; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Annette was an only child but grew up with twenty-six Rutland first cousins.
The family wishes to thank all of the friends that have taken care and time to assist mom over the last couple of years to make her feel safe and loved in her home.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
