

West Columbia, South Carolina — Barbara Aguiar Hevia, 74, a longtime resident of Columbia, most recently resided with her daughter's family in West Columbia, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2022 with her family by her side. Born on April 10, 1947 in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of the late John D. Aguiar and Mary L. Aguiar. Ms. Hevia graduated from the University of Tampa and retired as an elementary school teacher from St. Joseph Catholic School. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and having dinner with her friends, especially her best friend, Marianne Estock, who passed away in early 2021.
Ms. Hevia is survived by her beloved children, MJ Hevia (Dionne) of Irmo, SC, Brent Michael Hevia (Melissa) of Chapin, SC, and Denise Hevia Collier (Benjamin) of West Columbia, SC; Grandsons, Joshua Collier (United States Coast Guard), Jacob Webster, Adam Hevia, Bryce Hevia, Caden Hevia, Avery Hevia and Brayden Collier, many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Hevia was predeceased by her former husband, Manuel L. Hevia Jr.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Charles Butler, Prisma Home Health & Hospice Care and Special Care Medical for their excellent care and compassion.
A Requiem Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at the Church of Good Shepherd (Episcopal), 1512 Blanding St, Columbia. The family will have a private burial in Rhode Island at a later date. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Face masks are to be worn at all times during the Mass.
The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to the Church of Good Shepherd (Episcopal), Columbia, St. Joseph Catholic School, St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
