Beverley Cook Blackwell

COLUMBIA – A memorial service for Beverley Cook Blackwell, 82, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Shandon Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the church Memorial Gardens. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel is assisting the family. Mrs. Blackwell passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2016. She was born on January 9, 1934 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She was a daughter of the late Kenneth G. and Gwendolyn Hayes Cook. Beverley was an active leader in the Girl Scouts, a Deacon in the First Presbyterian Church of Arlington in Kearny, New Jersey where she also worked as the church secretary. She was an active member of Shandon Presbyterian Church where she was a former Circle Chairman and a member of the Quilting Guild. Surviving is her son; Bruce Robert Blackwell of Columbia; daughter, Elisabeth Schwartz (James) of Andover, New Jersey; sister, Linda Jacobs (Arthur) of Monroe, New Jersey; grandchildren, Jessica and Luke Schwartz and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Robert LeRoy Blackwell. Memorials may be made to Shandon Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 607 Woodrow St, Columbia, SC 29205.
