

COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Cecil Everett Blanks, 92, will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Park Street Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11 until 12:00 p.m. at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Blanks died Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Boyce and Lena Pound Blanks. Mr. Blanks was a devoted Christian who loved his family and church. He served in the Navy during World War II as a medic, was a member of Masonic Lodge #371 in Earlewood and was a manufacturer’s representative for children’s clothing for 50 years. He was also a lifelong member of Park Street Baptist Church and a member of the Riley Sunday School Class. Surviving are his daughter, Barbara Jean “B.J.” Blanks Nelson (Larry) of Columbia; grandson, Nick Nelson of Anderson; granddaughter, Lauren Blanks Nelson of Columbia; brother, Archie (Martha) Blanks of Columbia; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Mary Jean Atkinson Blanks; two brothers; and one sister. The family wishes to thank his dear friends, Bill Gabali and Bill Johns; his wonderful neighbors; Dr. Ruben Mayer and staff; and also the Medical Staff on the IICU floor of the Baptist Hospital, especially Krista Parrott.
