Claire S Haltiwanger

COLUMBIA The family of Claire Shealy Haltiwanger, 88, will receive friends from 3 until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Mrs. Haltiwanger passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, December 10, 2014. Born in Leesville, she was the daughter of the late Preston Sanders Shealy and DeAlva Wise Shealy. She was a 1947 graduate of Converse College and pursued her masters at the University of South Carolina. Mrs. Haltiwanger retired after 40 years in the Richland School District One, teaching at Wardlaw Junior High School, Columbia High School and completing her career at C.A. Johnson High School. She avidly enjoyed politics, current events and loved her pets and family. Surviving are her daughter, Claire H. Holley of Raleigh, N.C.; sons, Rufus Daley “Buck” Haltiwanger, III (Rachel) of Brentwood, Tenn., Frederick Sanders “Sandy” Haltiwanger (Barbara) of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; grandchildren, Ryan Haltiwanger (Stephanie), Patricia Smith (Mitch), Robert Haltiwanger, Natalie Haltiwanger, Amber Markow (Josh), Preston Haltiwanger, Katherine Haltiwanger; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Jaxon and Vivian; brother, F.H. Hendrix, III (Susie); and sister, Gail Bryan (Pete). She was predeceased by her husband, Rufus Daley Haltiwanger, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oliver Gospel Mission, P.O.
