

COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Dalton LeVern Ford, 89, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016, in St. John United Methodist Church Cemetery in Spring Hill, Rembert, SC. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Ford died Tuesday, September 27, 2016. Born on October 4, 1926 in Lee County, S.C., he was a son of the late Dalton Lee Ford and Maggie Marie Pate Ford. LeVern served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a member of Trenholm Road United Methodist Church. His professional career began in the grocery business. He worked for Colonial Stores Incorporated, where he was the meat merchandiser and meat buyer for the Southeast, “Thomas and Howard,” and Wetterau Incorporated. In 1983, LeVern opened Bi-Rite Food Store with two partners in St. Matthews. In 2001, he opened A & A Meat Market, named for his precious granddaughters, Ainsley and Alexandra. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Peebles Ford; daughter, Jean LaVern Ford Reid (Jeff) of Fort Motte; granddaughters, Ainsley Goodwyn Reid Porter (Webb) of Columbia and Alexandra Ford Reid of Orangeburg; and several nieces and nephews.
