
Graveside services featuring Military Honors will be held Noon Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania September 13, 1928, the son of the late Daniel F. and Bertha Smith.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his two brothers, Arthur D. Smith, Obran Smith and sister, Arlene Joyce Szinai. Survivors include his wife, Juanita "Bonnie" Smith, a son, David M. Smith and wife Cheryl and two grandsons; Michael D. Smith and Mark D. Smith.
Mr. Smith was a graduate of Allentown High School and immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at age 17. Upon receiving and honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from Northrup Institute of Technology in Hawthorne, California. In April of 1950, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Mr. Smith proudly serviced his country from 1950 - 1952 during the Korean Conflict in Japan and Korea and also served a tour of duty during the Vietnam War from 1965- 1966. CMSGT Smith retired in 1974 after nearly twenty-six years of honorable service to his country and was the recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with Five Oak Leaf Clusters, Korean Service Medal with Arrowhead, three Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Republic of Korea Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation Air Force, Marines, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Longevity Service Award with Five Oak Leaf Clusters and small arms expert badge. After retirement he was employed by DSS and SCDHPT until 1988.
Mr. Smith was a member of the American Legion and a life time member of the DAV.
