I first met Dave in 1996, when I was newbie at the then SCDHEC Maternal and Child Health program. I remember that he had been hired to evaluate the impact of the Medicaid family planning waiver. His conclusion was not what the MCH leadership wanted to hear, that one funding source had essentially supplanted another with little impact on the overall total number of clients served. Dave stood firm and clearly articulated his findings. I appreciated then and through the years continued to appreciate Dave's straightforwardness, his candor, and his mind. Dave had a biting sense of humor (at least to me!) and yet was a kind and caring person.  What a colleague! I miss him, and wish all the best to his loved ones.

This path near Hickory Lane onto the beach at Hilton Head Island will always make me think of Dave. A faithful friend and mentor; a wonderful beach house partner across the decades; and a wise, humorous, and gifted conversationalist.  We are going to miss him terribly. And now, like so many others, we must draw from a treasured bank of memories.   Deep condolences from our family out to Dave’s many beloved family members and friends.

Dave was a great friend and colleague. As I read others comments, it's amazing how many people he helped. Not only was he very active with the brain alliance, but he helped author 15 papers on spinal cord injury, after building a unique collaboration with those who have access to state data. He was a wonderful mentor to one of our junior faculty. Dave was always an exceptional colleague. As a son, he would go see his mother in New Jersey regularly. I asked him why he spent so much time in New Jersey and he told me that as long as she was alive he was going. That motivated me to greater appreciate every moment I had with my 99-year-old mother who passed away five months ago. Dave was a great friend making the drive to Charleston to celebrate my own survival of spinal cord injury at 40 years and then again at 50 years, then helped celebrate a special moment at the capital in 2023. Just cannot get over the shock that he is gone.

I cannot even begin to say how much this saddens me. Dave was my hero. And I'm not sure he even knew.   

The SC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy was incubated in the USC Institute of Public Affairs from 1994-1998 and my office was right next door to Dave's. He drafted the language for our bill that created County Grants for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention to provide funding to local prevention programs in all 46 counties.  
He took a highly contentious issue and brilliantly crafted the bill such that people with differing political philosophies could support it's passage. It was Dave's expertise and political saavy that was responsible for ensuring that boots on the ground organizations had the resources they needed to help our kids make good decisions. As a result, South Carolina realized the most significant decrease in teen pregnancies in the southeast.

Rest in peace my dear friend and wear your crown in glory. You made a tremendous impact on me  and so many young lives and I, along with untold numbers of others, will be forever grateful for you and for all you did.

As the parent of a son with a brain injury and a volunteer with the BIASC and BILC I saw Dave as a very special person. He was a big hitter in securing grants and provided valuable counsel for working with government agencies. It was rewarding for me to have crossed paths with Dave. 
The seeds he helped plant and cultivate will continue to grow and help others.

Dr. Murday's contributions to the brain injury community were very significant but perhaps not as widely known by those he impacted. Dave's mentoring of how advocacy groups could work with public health and other providers contributed to the strength of organizations such as the Brain Injury Association of South Carolina and the South Carolina Brain Injury Leadership Council. Dr. Murday's legacy will continue as people in South Carolina will be able to access services through these and other organizations though systems of care and service he impacted.

We will miss you Dave!

It was such a pleasure knowing Dave for many years.  He was a good friend and I learned many things from him regarding public policy, public health, legislation in many fields and all with honesty and good humor.  We enjoyed many mutual friends and will continue to miss him on so many levels.

The Brain Injury Association of South Carolina (BIASC) staff, board of directors and members send our condolences to Dave's family.  He was an advocate for the brain injury community and the BIASC.  His knowledge and expertise in many areas helped the BIASC and SC Brain Injury Leadership Council become what they are today. We will truly be missed.
