

Edgar Amis Maxwell, Jr., of Columbia, S.C. passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 5, 2026. He was born on May 31, 1945, to Edgar Amis and Margaret Cassidey Maxwell. Known as Eddie to his friends, he graduated from A. C. Flora High School in 1963 and from the University of South Carolina in 1967. At USC, he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and participated in ROTC. After graduation, he served two tours in Viet Nam on the USS Okinawa. After his service, he worked for Time Warner and later as a hospital administrator in San Diego. He retired to Columbia and served as a volunteer for several organizations including the Riverbanks Zoo.
He was a faithful member of Trinity Cathedral, and is survived by his cousins, Kathy Wootten-Lilly of Greensboro, NC, Brian Wotton and Ann Wotton Davis, both of Raleigh, NC, Carol Bolton Winkler of Murrells Inlet, SC, and David Garland Murray of Austin, TX, He is also survived by his two godchildren, Kenon Nibbs of Star, Idaho, and Jessica Nibbs Rathbun of San Diego, and will be remembered fondly by numerous friends.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, February 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in Trinity Cathedral with a reception following. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting.
