

COLUMBIA - Funeral service for E. R. “Rudy” Buice, 96, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3, 2014, at Kilbourne Park Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Buice died Thursday, July 31, 2014. Born in Forsyth County, Ga., he was a son of the late George W. Buice and Mary Ada Garrett Buice. He was a graduate of Chattahoochee High School in Hall County Georgia where he played on the 1936 State Championship Basketball Team. Mr. Buice graduated from Piedmont College where he played baseball. He was a teacher at Flowery Branch High School in Flowery, Ga., where he taught history, spelling, English, arithmetic, geography and economics. He was also the school’s athletic director, coached basketball and baseball, and directed all school plays. He retired from the State of Georgia where he was a counselor in the division of Vocational Rehabilitation. Mr. Buice served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of #512 Masonic Lodge F & AM in Clermont, Ga., longtime member of Lions Club, life member of National Rehabilitation Association and an ordained deacon. He was a member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church where he was in the Lantham Sunday School Class. Surviving are his daughter, Deidre B. Crow; grandsons, David B. Crow (Miriam), John S. Crow, James Matthew Crow (Ashley) all of Columbia; six great grandchildren, Ethan and Hannah, Zoe, Madelyn and Wyatt, and Emerson. He was predeceased by his wife, Helen Hulsey Buice; brothers, V.V. Buice and I.B. Buice. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
