COLUMBIA Emily Epps Burns, 67, passed away peacefully Monday, June 1, 2015, after a long illness. A memorial service for Emily will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2015, at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 1301 Richland Street, Columbia, SC 29201, with a reception following at the church. Born in Columbia, on December 13, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Katherine Florence Grahl Epps and William James Epps. Emily graduated from Dreher High School and the University of South Carolina where she received a degree in business. Emily had a long and successful career and was well known in both the banking and real estate community. She was also an active member of Ebenzer and served on the Bereavement Team and Alter Guild as well as other church committees. Emily was a volunteer for local community groups such as the Oliver Gospel Mission, Family Promise Shelter, and feeding the homeless. Surviving are her son, Brett Burns; sister, Mary Elizabeth Newman (Fred); niece, Beth Frazier; nephew, Rick Newman; and goddaughter, Emily Hortman. Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Lutheran Church.
