

LEXINGTON – Frances Pauline Poteat, 96, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2019. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A gathering of family and friends will be held 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Frances was born October 19, 1922 in Concord, NC to the late Arthur and Annie Robinson Hansil. She graduated from Concord High School in 1939 and married Carl Edward Poteat. In 1941 they had their little girl, Brenda Poteat. Frances was a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. While her husband and brothers were away at war, Frances took compassionate care of the ladies left behind. When she wasn't writing letters and making care packages for her deployed husband, Frances worked part time at a dime store and a dry cleaners. Frances lived in the Carolinas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas and Germany throughout her husbands military career and eventually settled down in Columbia, South Carolina. She worked for Provident Insurance in Columbia until 1992.While her greatest passion was her family and friends, Frances was also very passionate about animals, especially cats. She rescued and cared for dozens of cats in her lifetime. She also loved cooking and baking, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, and drinking coffee. Her favorite vacation spot was Beaufort, South Carolina where she loved listening to the sound of the ocean and feeding seagulls. In 1988, Frances became a grandmother to Amanda Meghan Hansil Williams, to whom she raised like her own daughter during the later years of her life.
Joining her in heaven are her parents, husband, Carl, daughter, Brenda Poteat Williams, sister, Eloise Hansil Williams, brothers, Jack Hansil, Billie Joe Hansil, and niece. Pamela Hansil Donnelly.
Survivors include her grand-daughters, Amanda Williams, Karen Williams; great-grandsons, Matt Hammack, Rex Hammack; nephew, William Hansil; nieces, Angela Bain, Jatana Norris, Candy Hansil Chappell and her very dear friends Jerrie Pearce,The Renfro Family and The Yancey Family.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Primsa Health Baptist, Lexington Medical Center Extended Care, and MSA Hospice.
