Francis Kelly Shuptrine

COLUMBIA We would like to share that Kelly passed away on July 19, 2024. He was born on June 5, 1940, in Kerrville, Texas. He was the son of the late John D. and Thelma Shuptrine of Bandera, Texas. He spent his childhood there until he moved to Austin, Texas to attend the University of Texas. He married Sarah Cardwell and had two daughters, Brenda and Gina. He received his PhD in Business Administration. He and his family moved to Columbia, S.C. in August 1971 where he taught at The University of South Carolina for 33 years. He enjoyed teaching and loved it when learning took hold.

He enjoyed playing golf for many years out at Lexington Country Club where he had many friends that he enjoyed playing with weekly.

Kelly was predeceased by his wife, Sarah C. Shuptrine and granddaughter, Sarah Marriner. Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Jim Curl of Charlotte, N.C. and Gina and Mark Marriner of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Zack and Brad Curl of Charlotte, N.C. and Rachel and husband, Brian Flynn, Matthew and Luke Marriner of Columbia, S.C.; and great-granddaughters, Mary and Emma Flynn of Columbia, S.C.

The family would like to acknowledge the immense support provided to us from Solutions for Living at Home and to Prisma Hospice for the end of life care that they so tirelessly provided.

Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting with the burial arrangements. There will be a private burial service for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to a charity of one's choice.
