Frank Harper Wiles Jr.

Frank Harper Wiles, Jr., age 71, of Columbia S.C. passed away on September 22nd, 2023. Frank was a lifetime resident of South Carolina having been born there on December 29, 1951. He was baptized and confirmed at Shandon Presbyterian Church. He attended Richland county public schools and graduated from A.C. Flora high school in 1970. During high school, he was on the Varsity baseball and football teams as well as being President of his senior class. He graduated from Wofford College in 1974 where he enjoyed being a brother in the Kappa Alpha fraternity.

He had various careers, starting with oil jobbing at Barnett Oil Company and ending with owning and operating Congaree Delivery Service. Throughout Frank’s lifetime, he enjoyed the outdoors – hunting, fishing, boating and hiking—and woodworking. He maintained an interest in sports of all kinds-- especially baseball and college football. He was an avid Gamecock fan and often cheered them on at home games. He absolutely loved cooking, and he was quite good at it, as many can attest from experience. He was appreciative of the visits from family and friends, especially during the last months of his life.

He is survived by his brother Henry B. Wiles (Cynthia); nephews: John, Mark, Michael, Luke Wiles; and nieces: Alicia Wiles Godoy and Emily Wiles Heimbrook; as well as 2 great nephews, William and Owen Wiles and 1 great niece, Katie Heimbrook. Frank was predeceased by his parents Frank H. Wiles, Sr. and Mary Frances Barnett, his brother James Allison Wiles, his aunt Fran Hook (who was more like a sister to him) and his beloved baby son – Frank Harper Wiles, III.

A memorial service for Frank Harper Wiles Jr. will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Shandon Presbyterian Church. The family will receive family and friends immediately after the service in Davis Hall.
