Columbia, South Carolina - Having passed through the valley of the shadow of death, Furman Wayne Lovelace, received his eternal reward on Sunday, April 24, 2022, and will dwell in the house of the Lord forever (Psalm 23).
Wayne was born in Gaffney, South Carolina on February 9, 1951, to the late Leonard and Mildred Lovelace.
After attending Gaffney High School, where he played football and baseball, Wayne went to The University of South Carolina and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Math. It was there that he met his wife and longtime love, Lynda Howie.
Wayne loved spending days with Lynda tailgating at Carolina Park and cheering for the USC Gamecocks. Wayne would often say that the best days were ones spent on the golf course with his sons, Clay and Harper.
Wayne spent over 40 years as a banker in Columbia. Through his role as a bank president, he was deeply involved in his community. He was also an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church where he served as an usher and President of Men of St. John's.
Family was of utmost importance to Wayne. His unbreakable spirit will live on in the lives he touched. Wayne spent his last days surrounded by the people he loved and was cared for by the wonderful nurses at Rice Estates and Lutheran Hospice.
Wayne is survived by Lynda Howie Lovelace, his wife of 47 years, who was his best friend and love of his life. He is also survived by his two beloved sons Furman Harper Lovelace (Jessica) of Columbia, SC and Clayton Sharpe Lovelace (Staci) of Columbia, SC, as well as his five grandchildren: Cannon, Towles, Marsh, Cora and Watts. Additionally, he is survived by his much-loved younger sister, Lynne Martin (John), niece Jennifer Wise (Michael), nephew Justin Lovelace (Ben), aunt Hazel Hubbard and his many, many dear friends. Wayne was predeceased by his parents.
The family would like to extend their deepest thanks to the compassionate and skilled physicians, nurses and staff of Rice Estates and Lutheran Hospice.
