

Funeral service for Harold Clarence Steele, Jr., 77, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2016 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Tony Metze. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Harold was born July 12, 1938 in Lexington County and passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016. He was the son of the late Ellen and Harold Steele, Sr. In his youth, he was very active in the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Columbia High School and the University of South Carolina with a BS in accounting. Harold was employed by the SC Vocational Rehabilitation and the SC Budget and Control Board. While there, he was instrumental in hiring staff and installing the first computer in the finance division of state government. He retired in 1994 from the SC Dept. of Disabilities and Special Needs. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He served on the church council and in other various capacities. Harold also served in the SC Air National Guard and was a member of the Associated Model Railroads of Columbia. He was very involved in his community and always willing to lend a helping hand to others.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Norma S. Steele; daughters, Paige S. Kemp (Jim), Amanda S. Drenning; son, Harold C. “Trey” Steele, III; grandsons, Zachary and Ethan Kemp, Steele and Grant Drenning; brother, Gerald Steele (Lynda); sister, Sara Skenes and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marian Phelps.
