

COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Herbert Bailey Guerry, 93, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 until 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Guerry died on January 7, 2015. He was the son of the late Herbert S. Guerry and Ruby Bailey Guerry. He was a graduate of Ridgeland High School and Draughton’s Business College. Mr. Guerry retired as a Colonel in the S.C. Army National Guard. He served in numerous staff positions and received many awards during this career. He also served as Comptroller upon the activation of the S.C. State Guard. He was a life member of the U.S. and S.C. National Guard Associations, Ft. Jackson Officer’s Club, 8th Air Force Historical, Huguenot and Jasper County Historical Societies. Mr. Guerry was a member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, having served on various committees. During his retirement he and his wife, Lib, traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Europe. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth “Lib” Guerry; sons, Sam Guerry (Jan) of Columbia, Dan Guerry (Cindy) of Panama City, Fla.; granddaughters, Jennifer Broome (Paul), Libby Guerry (Jay Bright) and Katie Ontiveros (Pedro); grandson, Christopher Guerry; great-granddaughters, Kaitlin and Carleigh Broome and Eswen Bright; great-grandsons, Paxton and Cruz Ontiveros. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Reddish, and a brother, Colonel Harold Guerry U.S.A.F. (Ret.) and his wife, Nancy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community’s Employee Appreciation Fund.
