Jack Shepherd "Shep" Jordan, age 80, died at his home in Hopkins on Thursday, March 21, 2024. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Emma Jordan, and in-laws, Sam and Verna Neeley. Shep is survived by his wife, Betsi Neeley Jordan; his daughter, Molly Jordan Sims (Keith) of Chapin; and granddaughters, Tyler Sims Tuggle (Jeremy) of Fayetteville, NC, and Emma Grace Sims of Clemson. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Kay Neeley; nephews, Arthur Crafaik (Kristin Lambert) and Eilliott Crafaik (Katie); and great nieces, Anna May-Crafaik and Fiona Lambert-Crafaik, of Charlottesville, Va.
Shep leapt into the world on February 29, 1944. He was a graduate of Lower Richland High School, where he excelled at both baseball and basketball, and the University of South Carolina, where he was a brother in the Sigma Nu fraternity. His professional career included time with the Boy Scouts and working in the banking industry with over 20 years at First National Bank of SC. After retiring from banking, Shep joined Betsi in helping manage their business, Prestige Travel, for 30 years. They really enjoyed traveling together and had the opportunity to experience many wonderful places around the world during this time.
Shep and Betsi have lived for over 35 years at Jordan Acres, his family home in Hopkins, and loved welcoming family and friends for good times together. Shep was an avid outdoorsman and mentor to many young people over the years, sharing his love for both hunting and fishing. He was the founding member of the Big Creek Knife and Gun Club where many good times, stories, and lies were shared by members and guests. Shep’s quick wit and wry sense of humor lifted the spirits of and endeared him to his family and friends whom he loved in return so dearly.
A service of celebration will be held on Monday, March 25th at 2:00 p.m. at Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine Street, Columbia, SC. The family will receive guests at the home following the service or in the sanctuary prior to the service from 1:00 – 1:45 p.m.
