

COLUMBIA - It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the death of Dr. Jacqueline Ihrig, 91, a longtime resident of Columbia, South Carolina, who passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at NHC Parklane, in Columbia.
Jackie was born in Dunkirk, New York. She graduated from Dunkirk High School and the University of Buffalo, where she earned her medical degree and married her classmate, John Ihrig (deceased), in 1955. The couple settled in Buffalo, NY, after completing a residency in San Antonio, Texas. They practiced dermatology while living in Buffalo, where they raised their children.
Jackie later relocated to Columbia, South Carolina, where she continued to practice medicine at Moncrief Army Community Hospital, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, until retirement. She was active in the community and supported the Columbia Philharmonic, the USC School of Music, the Columbia Art Museum, and the Riverbanks Zoo. She was also a volunteer at the Richland Library as well as the Literacy Council, where she met her second husband, Valentin Yesin.
Jackie was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s and St. Peter’s Basilica, in Columbia.
Jackie is survived by her children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be a visitation on Friday, May 23, 2025, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street, Columbia, South Carolina.
