

COLUMBIA - A Memorial Mass for James “Jim” Stewart Mooney, Jr., 67, will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 25, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. A reception at the church will immediately follow the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. James Stewart Mooney, Jr. died peacefully on April 21, 2016 in Columbia, S.C. He is survived by Linda Beall Mooney, son, Patrick Mooney (Artana); daughter, Kristina Penwarden (Anthony); along with grandchildren, Peyton, Keaton, Bryson, Sophia, and Lillia. Jim was born on May 28, 1948 in Gaffney, S.C. He was predeceased by his parents, James Stewart Mooney, Sr. and Nora Smith Mooney, and his sister, Martha Mooney Parris. He attended Gaffney High School, and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1971 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He was an active member of the USC Concert Choir, and an accomplished musician and talented actor. He was well known in the arts community, where he was active in local community theaters. He was a founding member and assistant director of the Palmetto Master Singers. He was a featured soloist at Washington Street United Methodist Church for many years. Jim’s Christian faith was very important to him, and he used his musical talents to inspire others. Jim will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends for his musical accomplishments and talents. His sense of humor was warm and infectious. He was a loving father and grandfather, whose family was the light of his life.
