

COLUMBIA - Service for Jerry R. Rhodes, 93, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 19, 2025, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with burial in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mr. Rhodes, widower of Mary Ann Rhodes, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Born in Hickory, N.C., he was a son of the late John F. and Marinel B. Rhodes. He was a graduate of Myrtle Beach High School. He served his country in the United States Navy and retired as a supervisor with the Columbia Post Office. He was a former co-owner of Ailes Market in Columbia.
Mr. Rhodes attended Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served on the Board of Deacons. He was a former member of the Dutch Fork and North Columbia Optimist Clubs and a former member of the St. Andrews Jaycees. He was a member of Dutch Fork Lodge #402 Masonic Lodge and Jamil Shrine Temple.
Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Melita R. Newman and Charles T. Newman, Sr. of Columbia, Cindy R. Leary and Dr. Julius L. Leary, Jr. of Ninety-Six, S.C.; sons and daughter-in-law, W. Lynn Rhodes of Columbia and James E. Rhodes and Betty M. Rhodes of West Columbia; grandchildren, J. Nicholas Perry (Candice), Lindsay P. Rish (Blake), Francis N. Smith (Dustin), Charles T. Newman, Jr., Julius L. Leary III, Caroline L. Brown (Rob), Christopher James Rhodes, Dr. Jonathan R. Leary (Jane); great-grandchildren, Bryce, Logan, Gavin and Mason Perry, Perry and Cameron Rish, Eve and Piper Leary, Jaxson Smith, Emmet Brown, and Hunter Newman.
Mr. Rhodes was predeceased by his wife, Mary Ann; daughter, Dorothy Ann Rhodes, sisters, Betty Rhodes Humphries, Virginia Crocker; and brothers, Victor G. Rhodes, Thomas B. Rhodes, John F. Rhodes Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dorothy Ann Rhodes Endowed Scholarship, Columbia College, Columbia, S.C., Westminster Presbyterian Church building fund or to a charity of one’s choice.
