
The Celebration of Life service for Joan Musgrove Ballew of Cayce will be held in St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Tony A. Metze will officiate. Burial will follow the service in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Ballew died on January 14, 2026. Born in Savannah, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Arthur Preston and Katie Kempson Musgrove. She and Joe were married on June 5th, 1953. He predeceased her on September 9, 2002. Joan retired from SCANA/SCE&G and served on the Boards of Directors for Pine Island and Good Neighbor Fund. She was recognized for her active role as a Personal Touch Volunteer with a Life Member Award at Palmetto Baptist Hospital and was honored as Volunteer of the Year by SCANA for her volunteer time of 18 years on the Oncology Unit.
After being associated with Edens-Turbeville Agency, she served on the staff of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. An active member of the church, she also served on its Church Council and various committees. Her loves were her family, the church, directing weddings and being a volunteer on several units at Palmetto Baptist Hospital.
She thanked God daily for everything. She is survived by her much loved children: Susan B. ("Herb") Keefe of Sumter; Joel B. Ballew, Jr. of Batesburg and Lisa B. (Jeff) Nichols of Melbourne, Florida. Truly wonderful grandchildren (all blessings): Matthew Nichols, Kevin (Elizabeth) Keefe and Kyle (Candace) Keefe, Beth B. (Theo) Walker, Justin (Kesler) Ballew; Laura B. (Andrew) Davis; and the greatest greatgrands, Tyler, Walker, Ady, Riley Anne, Wyatt, Sawyer, Raegan, Levi, Emerson, and Finley. She was preceded in death by her brother, Preston L. Musgrove.
Gratitude is expressed to Dr. Bradley W. Word and his staff for their care and compassion always shown.
The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service in St. Paul's Good Shepherd Room. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Christian Service Fund, 1715 Bull Street, Columbia, 29201 or a charity of one's choice.
