

COLUMBIA - A Memorial Mass for Joan Lempesis Connor, 69, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with visitation following until 8:00 p.m on Friday, December 9, 2016. Mrs. Connor died Monday, December 5, 2016. Born on February 23, 1947 in Atlanta, Georgia, she was a daughter of Anne Marie Guy Sullivan and the late John Edward Sullivan. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Parker Reed Connor; son, Travis Peter Lempesis of Columbia; daughter, Michele Lempesis Dodson of Columbia; four grandchildren, four sisters and two brothers. In addition to her father, she was predeceased by her brother, Eddie Sullivan; and sister, Peggy Sullivan Hunt. Joanie was a veteran singer in the Columbia music scene and was well respected and admired by her fellow musicians and fans. She had a dynamic vocal style and performed with her husband and many talented musicians for most of her adult life. Joanie had a compassion for helping others and loved her family dearly. She retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield and became a caregiver for her mother. She will be deeply missed by her family and many others.
