

He was born in Lenoir, NC, graduated from Dreher High School, Class of 1960 in Columbia, and from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Architecture Degree in 1966. He practiced architecture with a local firm in Columbia for years before joining the SC Department Of Education, Office Of School Planning and Building, where he oversaw construction and renovation of schools throughout South Carolina. He joined another local firm where he primarily dealt with construction supervision and management. He then joined the SC State Budget and Control Board Office of Construction and Management, where he was on-site architectural supervisor for many South Carolina projects including the SC Fire Academy, the renovation and restoration of the South Carolina State House, the renovation of Capitol Complex Grounds as well as other Capitol Complex buildings and the African American History Monument.
Rob was a talented photographer and sketch artist. He enjoyed gardening, traveling to the mountain and beach with family and friends. Rob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janet Copeland Bryan of Columbia, son Steven Bryan, wife Melinda (Mindy), and grandsons Finn and Oliver of Austin, Texas, sister Jean Bryan Gooch of Moncks Corner, SC, and other extended family and close friends. His parents John and Cecile Bryan of Columbia and young brother Arthur Bryan predeceased him.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the family home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28 at Belleview Cemetery, Lenoir, NC.
