

John Lewis “Jack” Guthrie, 73, passed away peacefully at home on January 1, 2022. Celebration of Life Services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 7, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A gathering of family and friends will immediately follow the service.
Jack was born June 7, 1948 in Bardstown, KY the youngest son of Ben and Margaret Mae Guthrie. His love of life and family was evident throughout his life, from mischievous games with his cousins to helping out with his grandparents' farm as a child to raising pigeons. He had many adventures around the world while he served in the Navy, including having to swim back to his ship one morning after oversleeping while on leave. He later moved to South Carolina, where he graduated from the University of South Carolina and raised his family. Jack loved Gamecock football and basketball, arguing politics, fast food, body surfing at the beach, throwing Kentucky Derby parties, his cat Judy, and keeping in touch with everyone he loved near and far. He will be missed by many.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Ben Guthrie, Jr. Survivors include his daughters, Sarah Guthrie and Natalie Taylor; son in law, Alex Taylor; grandsons, Brian and Nick Taylor; beloved partner of many years, Karen Stroud; sister, Aimee Mangum; and many friends, family and Bardstown cousins.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Oliver Gospel Mission or to Harvest Hope Food Bank.
