A graveside service will be held in Oakwood Cemetery, Hickory, NC, at 2 pm on Saturday, January 24th. Katherine died Saturday, January 17, 2015 after a full and happy life. Being surrounded by family and friends throughout her life brought her immense enjoyment. She was born in High Point, NC on October 3, 1930, attended Converse College and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She married James Lee Field on July 11, 1953. Katherine was an elementary school teacher and upon retirement, she and Jim spent twenty wonderful years in Montreat, NC, hosting every holiday event, and countless weekends, for her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends both recent and life-long. Granny’s home and her travels were always busy; filled with love and fun. Katherine moved to Atria Forest Lake, Columbia, SC, to be closer to her grandchildren in 2012. Despite declining health, her spirit and her warm caring manner never faded. The care and support of the Atria staff and care-givers are deeply appreciated by her family. She lived her last years as she lived her youth, always with a smile and a kind word to lighten someone else’s day. Katherine, a devoted mother and granny, is survived by her daughters; Molly Brown (Hogan) of Columbia, SC; Kate Helms (Chuck) of Florence, SC; a son, Elliott Field (Elizabeth) of Charlotte, NC; and grandchildren: April Field, Harrison Helms, Christine Helms, Brenton Helms, Randolph Brown, William Field, and Zackery Correll. She was predeceased by her husband and son, Jim and Murray Field. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Montreat Conference Center, P.O.
