
Louis Daniel “Mac” McMullan, 101, husband of Mary Jo Edwards McMullan, passed away on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 in West Columbia, SC. He was a son of the late Chappell Henderson and Mary Gibson McMullan. Mr. McMullan was born on March 23, 1924 in Chester, South Carolina and was a lifetime resident of Columbia.
As a young graduate from Columbia High School, Mac entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and was later stationed in Greenlawn Commons, Newbury, England, and France during WWII. His squadron dropped the first paratroopers on the beaches of Normandy.
Mac retired as a rating board specialist at the Veterans Administration Regional office after 40 years of federal service. He was a past member of Masonic Lodge #377, Scottish Rite, Jamil Temple, NARFE, and St. Andrews Baptist Church. He was an ardent supporter of the Carolina Gamecocks.
Mac is survived by his wife of 67 years; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Daniel McMullan and Dr. Angie A. McMullan of Sunset, SC; grandson, Dr. Ryan McMullan of Bloomington, Ind.; granddaughter, Laura McMullan of Atlanta, GA; nephews, Jim McMullan, William McMullan (Betty), John McMullan, and nieces, Rebecca Milam and Patricia Morrison (Larry).
Mac was the last living member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, James, John, Chappell, William, and sister, Mary Elizabeth Dennis.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 19, 2026 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. following the service at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
