

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Lt. Col. William Lloyd Glasgow, USA Retired, who passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on March 19, 2024. Colonel Glasgow lived a life marked by unwavering service, courage, and commitment to both his country and his family.
Born on January 12, 1933, in Shady Side, Ohio, the son of the late James Lloyd and Mildred Reiff Glasgow. Colonel Glasgow was raised with a strong sense of duty and patriotism, values that would shape his entire life. Recruited after graduating from high school, Bill played football for the Mississippi State Bulldogs graduating in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree where he was also a member of the Army ROTC Program, Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Student Council, MClub, Who’s Who Among College and Universities, and President of the Education School. While in Starkville, MS, Bill met and married the love of his life, Bonnie Scales Glasgow. He answered the call to serve his nation with distinction, honoring his service commitment in the Army in 1957.
Lt. Col. Glasgow served numerous deployments in Vietnam, facing adversity with resilience and bravery earning the Bronze Star and many accolades and commendations for his meritorious service before retiring in 1977.
Beyond his military accomplishments, Bill was a devoted family man, his kindness, integrity, and unwavering support served as a beacon of strength to those closest to him. Colonel Glasgow’s legacy will endure through the lives he touched. Though he may be gone from our midst, his spirit will live on in the hearts and memories of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, sons, William L. Glasgow, Jr. (Kathy); Sidney S. Glasgow (Debby); James Davis Glasgow, John Steven Glasgow (Jenny), and daughter Bonnibel Glasgow Moffat (David). Grandchildren William Christopher Glasgow (Bonnie), Alexandra Glasgow Leskovic (Derek), Ashton Summers Glasgow, David Douglas Moffat, MD (Allyson), Allison Evans Moffat Smith (David), James Davis Glasgow, Jr., Sarah Grace Glasgow Shackelford (Jared), Catherine Elizabeth Glasgow, and John Steven Glasgow and 4 great-grandchildren who find solace in the knowledge that he rests now in eternal peace.
A memorial service to honor Lt. Col. Glasgow will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 2910 Duncan Street, Columbia, SC 29205, on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Wednesday after the service.
