Marsha was born April 13, 1946 in Spartanburg to John and Vivian Caldwell Lindsay. Marsha especially enjoyed time spent on Grandfather Mountain with her grandparents. Growing up she loved going to school and became a lifelong learner. That passion for learning continued at the University of South Carolina where she was the recipient of a Master’s in Education. During her time at USC, she fell in love with George Reid and they were married in 1967. They attended St. John’s Episcopal Church in Shandon and in their younger days enjoyed dancing the Carolina Shag.
Marsha thrived in the classroom and for almost thirty years, shared her passion for learning with her students. As a young teacher she taught middle school math and science before transitioning to the Fourth Grade at Leaphart Elementary School. She truly cared about the well-being of her students and many conveyed that she was an inspiration.
Most importantly, she was dedicated to her husband and daughter and felt her greatest gift in life was being a Mother. Marsha and her family enjoyed weekend trips spent with her parents and yearly family beach vacations. She was especially happy to continue the beach vacation tradition with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, Roger Lindsay.
Marsha is survived by her husband, George Reid, her daughter Lindsay Reid Faistl and husband John, along with her grandchildren, Reid and Owen.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2024 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 2827 Wheat Street, Columbia, SC 29205. A reception will be held at the church following the service in Heyward Hall.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all of her friends and caregivers for their compassion and kindness. Words alone cannot express our gratitude and love to Viola Harris for her unending love, dedication and gentle care over the last five years.
