Mary Ann DuPree

Mrs. Mary Ann DuPree died Sunday, October 27, 2024. Born in Charlotte, NC, and raised in Newberry, SC, she was the daughter of Marcus Wilton and Mary Elizabeth Wingate Todd. She graduated from Newberry High School in 1951 and attended Queens College in Charlotte. She married her husband William Smith DuPree in 1956 and had a long career as a proud Army wife. Her many military travels included stops in Thailand and Greece.

After Bill’s retirement they settled in Columbia where Mary Ann volunteered with the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Lexington County Public Library and The Newberry Opera House. She loved angels and had a remarkable collection of all kinds. It was a fitting thing for her as she was an angel to all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her daughter, Carole DuPree Garren; son, William “Billy” DuPree (Edie); grandson, William Aengus “Liam” DuPree; nieces, Marcia Todd Wood, Trudy Todd Morehead, Frankie Todd Tinley and many great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, her daughter Mary Elizabeth DuPree and her son-in-law, Mark Garren.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday November 14, 2024 in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The V Foundation for Cancer Research or The Newberry Opera House.
