Michael Loyd Guffee Jr.

Michael Loyd Guffee, Jr. was born on January 18, 1978, in Augusta, Georgia and died on May 19, 2025. He was 47 years old. He was the son of Reverend Mike and Winni Guffee of Greer, South Carolina and the loving father of Carlyn and Lauren Guffee of Columbia, South Carolina. He was the brother of Ashley Howard, brother-in-law of Chris Howard, and uncle to Lexi and Stone Howard of Greer, and extended family and many friends.

Michael was the absolute best father and loved his girls to the utmost. As a divorced father with joint custody, he spent every moment he could with Carlyn and Lauren and they loved him dearly. He taught them to play tennis and enrolled them in tennis tournaments throughout the south. They loved these weekend trips and being with him every chance they could. He coached both of their church basketball teams and was a mentor in their church confirmation classes. He attended every school event and doctor's appointment. He could not have been more loving and caring of his daughters.

Everyone who knew him loved him and appreciated him and he loved people. He had an outgoing personality and had numerous friends in Columbia and Greenville. He was a member of Rockbridge Tennis Club where he regularly played tennis. He was a member of several tennis teams that went to the state and regional finals.

Michael was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and received his MBA from the Darla Moore School of Business.

Michael was employed by the South Carolina Office of Regulatory Staff where he served as Director of Administration.

He was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church, Columbia, SC.

The family extends great appreciation to Susie Garner and Maggie Hendry for their love and support of Michael. They demonstrated their love and friendship time and time again.

A Memorial Service for Michael will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 28, at Shandon United Methodist Church, with a reception following in Player Hall.
