COLUMBIA, SC - Nancy Suzanne Hines, 69, entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 12, 2025. Born in Kinston, NC, she was a daughter of the late Paul Hines, Jr. and Eloise McLamb Hines. Nancy got her love of life and people from her beloved parents who also instilled the values and work ethic by which she lived.
She graduated from Kinston High School. Even as a young teen, Nancy was a high achiever and excelled in academics. She attended Governor's School for mathematics and was a contestant in the inaugural Junior Miss pageant. Upon graduation, she received the outstanding senior award.
She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Meredith College where she graduated a year early and with honors. There, she learned to think analytically and to work in a collaborative and problem solving environment. Her major prepared her for a successful career in Property & Casualty Insurance Technology. Nancy was widely known and respected in her roles as a marketing executive and industry leader at Policy Management Systems, Computer Sciences Corporation, Duck Creek Technologies and other notable technology companies in the industry. She was a beloved friend and mentor to many and a collaborative colleague. She was considered an exceptional performer by employees, clients and senior management. She was a delight to work with and her influence will never be forgotten.
Nancy attended St. Simon and St. Jude Episcopal Church where she was active as a lector. She also sang in the choir and was in the bell choir.
In her youth, Nancy enjoyed spending time with her grandparents at Wrightsville Beach. When she moved to South Carolina, she became an avid Gamecock fan. She loved both USC football and baseball and had season tickets until about 5 years ago. She made many male friends because of her extensive knowledge and love of football. It was quite impressive to hear her discuss scores, players and quote stats up until her last days with the best of football enthusiasts. It’s not surprising that her first crushes were college and NFL football players, Roman Gabriel and Sonny Jurgensen, both from Wilmington,NC.
Nancy was also an animal lover. Her little Cavipoo, Michael, was her pride and joy and constant companion. Nancy was also interested in fitness and loved to walk. Her discipline and focus on health was very admirable. She also enjoyed raising chickens with her friend Ray Abdalla.
Nancy’s friends and family would describe her as a sweet and wonderfully kind person. She was known for her happy spirit, sense of humor, loyalty, fun nature and positive attitude. She never once uttered an unkind word about anyone. She fiercely loved her family and friends and made this world better with her joy, kindness and generosity. It was easy to love her back and as a result, she had many cherished friendships.
Surviving are her sister and only sibling, Mary Lynn Lawler; brother-in-law, Jim Lawler; nephews, James Kyle, Paul and Patrick Lawler and their families.
The family wishes to thank Amedisys Hospice, in particular, nurses Shavon Thompson, Stephanie Miller and Bria Coardes. Dr. Malshundria Prophet and Nurse Practitioner, Katie Matzko were also instrumental in her care during her illness.
A special thanks to her dearest friends, Connie Austin and David Kahn, for all of their years of love and friendship. Nancy also appreciated all of her other amazing friends who provided love and support throughout her illness.
