Nancy Reid passed away in the comfort of her Pawleys Island, SC home with loved ones by her side, on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens.
Nancy was born in Hartsville, SC on February 13, 1938. She was the daughter of Lide and Ollie Pearl Talbert Huggins and was the youngest of their 10 children.
Nancy married Lucius Lacoste Reid on December 20, 1956, and his military career took them around the world. Nancy and Lacoste lived in Waltham, MA as newlyweds, had their first child Michael in San Antonio, Texas, and welcomed their children Donald and Teresa in Münchweiler, Germany.
Nancy and Lacoste returned home to South Carolina and settled in Columbia, where they made their home and raised their children. Nancy was a member of Woodfield Park Baptist Church where she served as pianist and Sunday school teacher. She was a dedicated gas accountant at SCE&G for 30 years. After retiring from SCE&G in 2000, “Ms. Nancy” spent many years as a nursery school teacher at St. Martin’s-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church and Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Nancy moved to “the beach” in 2010 and spent her last years in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.
Nancy was an avid reader, but especially enjoyed historical fiction, mystery, and cookbooks. She was a collector of all things cute and quaint from bells to figurines, as any visitor to her home can attest. A sports fan with a competitive streak, she enjoyed watching sports of just about any kind. And through all these things, Nancy pursued a life of deep faith and commitment to family.
Nancy Reid will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Her strength, intelligence, wit, feistiness, and loyal compassion will be remembered by all who knew her. She is survived by her three children, Michael Reid, Donald Reid (Kathy), and Teresa Reid Mitchell (Bill); her four grandchildren, Elizabeth Mitchell Stern (Jason), William Mitchell Jr. (Malena), Alexandra “Allie” Woodring (Bryce), and Michael Reid Jr.; her four great-grandchildren: Anna Cate Beck (11), Caiden Woodring (4), Cole Woodring (3), and Claire Stern (2); and her sister, Silveree Gainey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
