

COLUMBIA - Mrs. Novelle Grady Craig passed away Friday at age 88. She was born September 7, 1927 in Jamestown, South Carolina, daughter of the late Mr. Arthur L. Grady and Stella Huxford Grady of Jamestown.
Mrs. Craig graduated from Berkeley High School in Moncks Corner and attended Winthrop College in Rock Hill. She was employed for two years at the Medical College of South Carolina.
On August 14, 1948, Novelle married Captain Cecil Paul Craig, Sr. in Charleston. They were happily married for forty years until Cecil passed away in 1988.
Novelle was a wonderful woman who loved the Lord and had a good spirit about her even in her later years. She was a good wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She enjoyed being an Army wife and was very supportive of her husband. In addition, she was a beautician and owned and operated Novelle’s For Style or Forest Drive from 1964 to 1987. She enjoyed being a member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church. She loved her family and extended family, keeping in contact and traveling to visit and help out any way she could.
Novelle was predeceased by her husband Captain Cecil P. Craig, Sr.; sisters, Elizabeth Davis Horton, Polly Sanders, and Weezie Russell Huxford; brothers, Tyler Russell and Harley Russell.
She leaves behind her son, Cecil Craig and his wife, Carole; daughter, Ursula Novelle Smith and her husband, Richard; grandchildren, Joseph Craig (Danielle), Katherine Craig, Lisa Asmann (Tim), and Stella Ball (Travis); and great-grandchildren, Caroline Craig, Craig Attaway, Grace Attaway, and Griffin Ball.
A service to honor of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6 at Kilbourne Park Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
