
Pierrine Baker Johnson passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. She was born March 3, 1930, in Greenwood, South Carolina, to the late Mary Nicholson and Dr. Stanley C. Baker. Pierrine was predeceased by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 66 years, William Woodward “Hootie” Johnson.
A devoted wife and mother of four daughters, Pierrine found her true calling and deepest satisfaction in her family, always placing their needs above her own. She was a person of boundless energy who enjoyed many pastimes, including gardening, cooking, and spending time at Lake Greenwood—activities she pursued to much pleasure with her extended family. Ever humble, selfless, and loving, she continues to be an inspiration of dignity, strength, and grace to all who knew her.
Pierrine is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Jennifer and Chuck Todd, and Marie and John Fairey of Columbia; Sally and Ronnie Wrenn of Charlotte; Jane and Dan Breeden of Spartanburg; ten grandchildren, Charlie Todd, Pierrine Todd Thomas, John Fairey, Harriet Fairey Gilmer, William Fairey, Holt Wrenn, Sarah Wrenn Donelan, Mary Breeden, Sally Breeden Lightsey, and Anne Breeden Pitt; as well as 21 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Stanley C. Baker, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC, 29206. Memorials may be made to Eastminster Presbyterian Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
