

COLUMBIA - Graveside service for Plummer Joseph “P.J.” Jamison, Jr., 92, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2014, with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Jamison died Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Born in Eau Claire, Pa., on October 21, 1921, he was a son of the late Plummer Joseph Jamison, Sr. and Olive Elizabeth Hooven. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Philippines. While stationed at Fort Jackson he met his future wife at a USO gathering. They were later married on December 29, 1945 in Columbia. Together they raised their four children and were members of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church for many years. Mr. Jamison worked in the sheet metal construction industry as a supervisor, and later worked for the South Carolina state government. He always had a deep love for cars and stock car racing which he shared with many of his grandchildren. Surviving are his daughters, Kathryn J. Ison (James) of Westerville, Ohio, Cynthia J. Burns (Max) of Columbia, Linda K. Broughon (Ernest) of Aiken; seven grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Frances Murphree Jamison; son, Jimmie Larry Jamison; two sisters; and five brothers. The family wishes to thank the staff of NHC Parklane and Providence Hospital for the care of their father during his time of need. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Greenlawn Baptist Church, 6612 Garners Ferry Road, Columbia, SC 29209 or a charity of one’s choice.
