Reece built a life defined by generosity, curiosity, and a deep commitment to the people and places he cherished. He loved sailing, being outdoors on the water, and bringing others along for the adventure. Called Sweetie by his grandchildren, each one received a personalized trip to California upon turning nine —a tradition that reflected his belief that memories were the most meaningful gifts. Friends and guests knew that a weekend with Reece might include attending both a symphony concert and the Coon Dog Show, with a stop for barbecue along the way. His home was a place of welcome, where he and Nancy cooked, entertained, and hosted both intimate gatherings and professional events with equal warmth.
Reece was deeply committed to the arts, culture, and civic life of Columbia. He supported numerous organizations including a lifetime of board service with the Salvation Army.
His professional life was shaped early on by the hours he spent watching his father and other lawyers at the Lancaster County Courthouse. That fascination grew into a distinguished career as a trial lawyer. Recently retired from Callison Tighe, he was a veteran litigator known for his clarity, fairness, civility, and unwavering professionalism. Reece earned a degree in English from the University of North Carolina and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
Reece lived a life rich with purpose, generosity, and connection. He gave freely of his time, his talents, and his table. He believed in community, in culture, in good food, in good stories, and in showing up for others. His legacy lives on in the institutions he strengthened, the colleagues he mentored, the friends he welcomed, and the family he loved.
